Students at Mars Area School District’s elementary schools are joining in various activities to benefit the American Heart Association throughout the month of February.
Students at Mars Area Primary Center (K-1) and Mars Area Elementary School (2-4) are asked to participate in the association’s Kids Heart Challenge by raising money for children with “special hearts.” Students, with the assistance of their parents, may register for the fundraiser online at http://american.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge/for-students/.
At the conclusion of the fundraiser, first grade parents will be invited to jump rope with students in their physical education classes during the first week of March. Parents will be asked to donate $5 to participate and all proceeds will go to the American Heart Association.
At Mars Area Centennial School (5-6), students are learning about heart health and fitness in their physical education classes and will be jumping rope and joining in basketball shoot-out games.
Students are also asked to sign up online at www.heart.org/americanheartchallenge to collect donations for the cause. The class that raises the highest amount will get to choose the physical education activity of the day.
