As winter weather is upon us, it is important for our school bus drivers to have their attentions focused on traffic and road conditions; therefore, Mars Area School District is calling upon parents/guardians to remind students about appropriate behavior on our school buses.
All school buses should be considered an extension of the classroom; therefore, expectations for children’s behavior both in school and on the school bus are the same. Students on school buses are expected to remain seated in their assigned seats while the bus is in motion.
Inappropriate conduct, may include, but is not limited to, defiance of authority, disorderly conduct, verbal abuse, gambling, stealing, smoking, destroying or defacing property, alcohol and drugs and physical assault, is strictly prohibited. In addition, eating, drinking and open food containers are prohibited on school buses at all times to accommodate those students with severe allergies.
Any student who engages in inappropriate conduct while riding a school bus will be referred to the Building Principal for discipline, in accordance with District policy. A student may be temporarily or permanently suspended from bus transportation for disciplinary reasons. In that event, the parent/guardian will be responsible for transporting the student to and from school.
Cameras are in use on all buses that provide transportation for Mars Area School District. School bus drivers are responsible for the discipline of students while they are being transported to and from school. Parents/guardians are asked to monitor students’ behavior as they travel to and from bus stop locations as well as when they are waiting for their bus.
Mars Area School District encourages all parents/guardians to please talk with your children about appropriate behavior both on and off of the school bus. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we make every effort to safely transport your child(ren) to and from school.
Questions or concerns regarding school bus transportation may be directed to the principal in your child’s school building or to Mrs. Jane Roth, Director of Transportation, at (724) 625-1507. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Wesley W. Shipley
