Welcome to another fun filled school year! I am excited to be your new School Counselor for Mars Area Primary Center and Mars Area Elementary School. I was formerly the School Counselor at Centennial for 3 years and a School Counselor in Ohio for 5 years.

School Counselors support students in a variety of ways, both face to face and more “behind the scenes.” Behind the scenes we collaborate with and provide consultation to parents, school faculty and administrators, community providers, local agencies, etc. to help our students get what they need. We also coordinate school wide programs and events like Red Ribbon Week, Children’s Grief Awareness Day, and Career Day.

In our face to face work with students we provide classroom lessons on a variety of topics, small group counseling (topics based upon need, but common topics include friendship skills, social skills, girls leadership, etc.), and individual counseling. Please note, individual counseling is brief, and short term. This is not therapy. If you feel your child needs therapy I would be happy to help you find a provider that meets your needs. Children can be referred for school counseling by a parent, teacher, administrator, school staff member, school counselor, or by the students themselves!

Last year, I created a Virtual Calming Room for students (and information for parents too!). It has lots of coping skills broken down by category and can be used at home too! You can access that here: https://sites.google.com/marsk12.org/virtual-calm-down-corner/additional-help

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with concerns about your child – socially, emotionally, or academically. Because I will be working at both the Primary Center and Elementary Building, email is the best way to reach me.

Thank you! I look forward to meeting you and working with your children!
