District Bids Farewell to Retiring Staff Members

As the 2022-2023 School Year comes to a close, Mars Area School District is saying goodbye to four retiring teachers/staff members: 

Christine BoehChristine Boeh, a first grade teacher at Mars Area Primary Center, is retiring after 19 years in the District.

Boeh began her career at Mars Area in 2004 as a first grade teacher at Mars Area Primary Center. She previously served as a substitute teacher in the District for one year and she worked as a kindergarten and first grade teacher Johnston County School District (Smithfield, N.C.).

She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and elementary (K-6) certification from East Carolina University.

In her retirement, she plans to travel and “embrace all of the things I haven't had time to do, and from there ... the sky's the limit!”

Marsha McGroartyMarsha McGroarty, a third grade teacher at Mars Area Elementary School, is retiring after 38 years in the District.

McGroarty began her career in the District in 1985 as a third grade teacher at Adams Elementary School, before moving to the current Mars Area Elementary School.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in elementary mathematics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

A resident of Seven Fields, she and her husband, Jim, have two children, Allison and Erin. In her retirement, she plans to enjoy every day to its fullest.

Christine PetriniChris Petrini, a fourth grade teacher at Mars Area Elementary School, is retiring after 35 years in the District.

Petrini began her career at Mars Area in 1988 as a long-term substitute fifth grade teacher at Adams Elementary School before moving to fourth grade in 1989.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Westminster College and a master’s degree in reading from Duquesne University.

A resident of Middlesex Township, she and her husband, Frank, have two grown children, Frankie and Nat, both of whom are Mars Area graduates. In her retirement, she plans to “get rid of my alarm clock and see what adventure each day brings.”

Kim SchuelkeKim Schuelke, a kindergarten teacher at Mars Area Primary Center, is retiring after 15 years in the District.

Schuelke previously served as a Math Lab teacher at Mars Area Middle School (2013-2014); an eighth grade mathematics at Mars Area Middle School (2011-2012); and as a Title I Math Coach at Mars Area Primary Center (2008-2011).

Prior to joining the District, she worked as a first grade teacher in Sacramento, Calif.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Geneva College, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Slippery Rock University and a master’s degree in learning & teaching mathematics from Drexel University.

A Butler resident, she and her husband, Eric, have three children, Aaron, Evan and Ian. In her retirement, she plans to travel, read, garden, and volunteer at church.
